Following on from our successful forays to John O’Groats and Wick, B & D Roofing were proud to be appointed as principal contractors for the external refurbishment of the famous Torosay Castle on the Island of Mull.
The “Castle” is in fact a Baronial Mansion designed by the renowned Scottish architect David Bryce and dating back to 1885.
The works involved the stripping of all existing slates and lead weathering’s form the high-level pitched roofs, stone restoration, conservation works and a sympathetic overhaul and draught proofing of the sash and case windows.
There was also an element of structural stabilisation works required primarily to the south elevation turrets and dormer pediments.
Taking account of the local climate it was decided that the project would be best supported by the provision of a temporary roof structure; this provided protection to the internal fabric of the building and allowed us to in most weather conditions.
